Two catamarans – using traditional Polynesian hullshape and sails - will sail the ‘Lapita Voyage’.
Starting point: The small Philippine island of Panglao. The Philippines were stepping-stones on the long migration route of the Polynesians from Taiwan into the Pacific.
Navigation on the voyage
There will be no modern navigation equipment aboard.
The voyage will follow a natural island-hopping route.
The longest distance between two islands is approx. 200 Nm (360 km).
We will use the same navigation guides as available during the period of Polynesian migration, e. g. sun, stars (zenith-star navigation), wind, birds and wave-patterns.
